Interview with the band Addicus

Addicus is an indie power pop band out Marquette, Michigan. The three-piece made up of Lex, Josh, and Eric have been releasing music for nearly 2 years now, but their debut self-titled album was just released in July. They’ve had a productive few months since, including playing Yoop Fest and getting a physical album release through Leave It At That Records. I got an opportunity to ask them a few questions about the album and their band:

Are you guys NMU students and/or Michigan natives? If you are students, did you meet through school?

We are all Michigan natives and Alexis graduated from NMU with an accounting degree. Josh only went for about a month. Eric has never been.

I noticed that the new album was released through Acid Punk Records but also got a physical cassette release through Leave it at That Records. In what way are you connected to those labels and how did those connections come about?

Acid Punk Records was created by our drummer Josh who also records our music. His brother Faceless is a co-founder and also prints our merch. Leave It At That has worked with some of our friends from Marquette and they suggested we get in contact with them. We loved the idea of a cassette and magazine bundle.

What are your thoughts on the Marquette scene? I know there's not much elsewhere in the UP, but with artists like Casper Fight Scene, Liquid Mike, and Charmer, Marquette seems to compare to a lot of towns with bigger populations. Do you guys feel pretty involved in the local scene?

The other bands here welcomed us very quickly and were really supportive early on. Liquid Mike helped us get our first show. The Casper Fight Scene has brought us down state and helped us get quite a few shows as well. It’s really cool to see 50+ people crammed into a kombucha bar or coffee shop up here in Marquette. After the last couple years we definitely feel a part of the community. It’s heart warming to see people come out to our shows and sing the words to our songs with us.

Addicus’ 10-track self-titled debut album is available to stream now. You can also purchase a limited-run cassette and magazine bundle through Leave It At That Records. (https://www.liatrecords.com/products/828518-addicus-addicus)
